About Pam Rowse
The Story Behind Somerset Household Admin
My path to becoming a private administrative specialist hasn’t been a standard corporate climb—it has been built on over three decades of hands-on problem-solving, meticulous craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to looking after people.
Bespoke Client Service, Meticulous Detail & Early Independence
I have been self-employed since the age of 19, starting my first business as a bespoke wedding dress maker specializing in fine beadwork and hand-finishing. Beyond learning how to manage my own business accounts and administration from day one, running a bespoke bridal atelier meant managing exceptionally personal client relationships during high-stress, emotionally charged life moments. It required absolute discretion, deep empathy, and a calm, reassuring presence to guide clients smoothly through complex choices and tight deadlines.
Spending years on intricate, high-stakes garments taught me extraordinary patience, precision, and an eye for the smallest detail. When hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) injuries meant I had to step away from hand-stitching in my early 30s, those core strengths—unshakable patience, empathetic client care, and structured focus—transferred seamlessly into private administrative management.
To balance diverse client needs and community projects, I have maintained a structured portfolio career—running complementary part-time management and administrative roles in parallel.
Two Decades of Practice & Operations Management (Part-Time)
In 2004, I joined Chew Valley Osteopathic & Therapies Practice as a temporary cover receptionist. Twenty-two years later, I am proud to have served as their part-time Practice Manager for over 15 years. During that time, I have modernized and rebuilt the practice’s operational backbone:
-
Transitioning traditional paper diaries to a secure, remote-access digital booking system.
-
Overhauling office compliance and systems to meet strict GDPR data privacy standards.
-
Managing end-to-end bookkeeping, payroll, Health & Safety reviews, email correspondence, and marketing.
Alongside my core practice management role, I’ve always stayed connected to community creative projects—including serving as workshop writer, sewing tutor, and duty shop manager at The Blue Room in Nailsea, a collaborative enterprise supporting local artists.
High-Level Corporate Admin & Client Communications (Part-Time & Parallel Roles)
Between 2016 and 2023, alongside my practice work, I served as remote PA to the Director and subsequently Admin Manager for Heather Smith Commercial. In this role, I delivered high-level administrative, communications, and media management across flagship corporate accounts, high-profile arts organizations, and major commercial business parks. My work centred on digital precision, structured data handling, and professional representation:
-
Complex Survey Design & Reporting: Building advanced, logic-branching online occupier surveys to gather operational data across large-scale business parks, and compiling detailed analytical reports for corporate stakeholders.
-
Client Communications & Media: Managing regular digital communications, news updates, and targeted social media schedules on behalf of multiple corporate client accounts.
-
Commercial Property Marketing: Preparing formal marketing collateral, property specifications, and Schedules of Condition (SoCs) for commercial property lettings.
Private Secretary Work & The Birth of Household Admin
In 2020, I expanded my portfolio to take on a part-time role as a private secretary for a client in the Chew Valley. Managing complex personal logistics, property affairs, and sensitive paperwork quickly highlighted a growing need: busy individuals, families, and seniors often need high-trust, expert administrative support to keep their lives running smoothly without the burden of managing it all themselves.
That work naturally expanded to support other private clients across Somerset—and ultimately led to founding Somerset Household Admin.
Community, Media & Heritage
Beyond my primary administrative and practice management roles, my work is rooted in clear communication, creative presentation, and local community support.
-
Publication & Editorial Excellence: As the former Editor of The Bulletin (the quarterly magazine for the Friends of Bristol Art Gallery), I led a complete design transformation of the publication from a standard newsletter into a high-quality A5 journal. Modernising the layout, curating articles, and managing production, the magazine twice won first prize in the national British Association of Friends of Museums Newsletter Competition (2015 and 2018).
-
Local Club Governance & Publicity: I currently serve as Secretary and Publicity Officer for Wells City Archers. In these voluntary roles, I oversee club correspondence, support operational administration, manage external publicity, and help keep the club running smoothly behind the scenes.
Whether handling complex private paperwork or coordinating community communications, I bring the same meticulous attention to detail, precision, and care to every project.
Advocating for You: Taking on Bureaucracy & Big Business
One of my greatest strengths is standing up for my clients when corporate systems fail them or omit vital details. I am not afraid to dig into complex paperwork, unravel fine print, and insist on fair outcomes:
-
Contract Omissions & Deposit Recovery: When a private client paid a £1,500 reservation deposit for a retirement property, the initial terms stated that £1,000 would be non-refundable upon cancellation. However, once the full lease agreement arrived two months later, I identified a hidden, restrictive clause that had been omitted during early discussions. Challenging the developer on the grounds of "omission of key information," I successfully secured a 100% refund of the full £1,500 deposit.
-
End-to-End Relocation & Property Admin: Following that resolution, I took over the complete management of the client’s home move—sourcing a suitable private freehold property, handling all pre-move documentation, coordinating trades and utility transitions, and managing the post-move settling-in administration from start to finish.
-
Energy Supplier Metering Dispute: When an elderly client living alone received abnormally high energy bills, I led a six-month investigation. By escalating the matter to the Energy Ombudsman, I proved the supplier had failed to conduct basic due diligence on a faulty smart meter, securing a substantial refund and a massive permanent reduction in her monthly costs.
-
Telecom Contract Overcharges: Upon auditing another client’s accounts, I discovered a legacy broadband and TV contract costing nearly £200 a month with no call package. Challenging the provider’s failure to meet their regulatory duty to offer the best deals, I successfully migrated the client to a modern service, saving them £150 every single month.
Professional Peace of Mind: Fully insured with comprehensive Professional Indemnity and Public Liability coverage.
